Prolapsed Intervertebral Disk

A prolapsed intervertebral disk (also known as a herniated disk or a slipped disk) occurs when the soft, spongy material inside a spinal disk bulges or ruptures through a crack in the outer layer of the disk. This can cause back pain and, in some cases, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the limbs. Prolapsed intervertebral disks most commonly occur in the lower back, but can also occur in the neck. The condition is often caused by age-related wear and tear, but can also be caused by injury or strain. Treatment options for a prolapsed intervertebral disk may include pain medication, physical therapy, and, in severe cases, surgery to remove the damaged portion of the disk. It is important to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment of a prolapsed intervertebral disk.
